On the outer edge of Fruits de Mer releases, Michael Padilla recorded these electronic pieces live in his studio, and i knew i had to find a way to put them out on vinyl; i think of them as experimental, but people who've heard them describe them as 'mellow', and that's a much better description! For some reason, this felt like music that lent itself to a picture disc and the US artist Tahiti Pehrson (www.tahitipehrson.com) has created images for the disc that will, I think, prove pretty spectacular when spinning on your deck.
Fruits de Mer is/are aware of the sonic limitations of picture discs (good grief, we've been to flexidiscs and back), so we've included a CD of the album in all copies - although, as you might, expect, the CD goes a little further and includes a bonus track.
This is an even more limited pressing than usual for FdM and I've had to stop taking orders via paypal and start up a waiting list to make sure i don't take money off anyone and then not be able to fulfil your order - but please email me and i'll try to get a copy to you
The pieces work as nice demonstrations for what could be utterly gorgeous neo-classical compositions but ‘Northern Lights’, in the fact that it’s meant to be inorganic, is the pick of the bunch. That said, it would be a picky person who could find issue with the horn and strings beauty of ’The Waiting’. Comes on a remarkable picture disc and the package includes a CD containing a bonus track. Lovely.
