With a name taken from a dream, and musical influences from Ennio Morricone Spagetti Western soundtracks to early 90's grunge, the Madeline Rust are Lucy Morrow (vocals and bass), Aly McNab (guitars) and Martin Syvret (drums). This new album, Truth Or Consequences, is a haunting and powerful story of love and death, romance and murder. The town of Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico, is only too familiar with these tragic contradictions. Named for the 1950's radio show of the same name, on the surface Truth Or Consequences is a typical all American desert spa town.
In the 1990's, the town became notorious for being the home of David Parker Ray, a local man who drugged and tortured dozens of women in his self styled "toy box", over a period of possibly forty years. Many of the women are still missing, yet no bodies were ever found. The story, amongst others like it, is the inspiration behind Truth Or Consequences. Lyrics inspired by a fascination with the thoughts and minds of the survivors, the girlfriends, the victims of killers. Those who have been loved and those who have been lost.
From David Flint: I've seen The Madeline Rust perform a couple of times and they are a great live act, but in all honesty, nothing quite prepared me for this. Truth or Consequences is the most astonishingly brilliant, savagely emotive and disturbingly immersive album I've heard in a long time. It does what all music should do, taking you to a place you might never otherwise visit and revealing truths you might not care to think about. Just don't get into a car with a strange man who is playing it.
